This is how you can create a more productive life.
- Create Habits
This allows our brain to increase efficiency. Our brain turns daily actions & behaviours into habits, so we do them automatically. Frees up our brainpower for other important things. Having positive habits creates more time.
- Getting enough sleep
Studies show when we get between 7-8 hours of sleep we are able to focus more and have the energy needed to complete our day more efficiently.
- Do not multitask
We have been told so often that we are better if we can multitask. This is not true, our brain cannot do 2 things at once. It has been proven that it takes longer since our brain has to switch back and forth. For example reading email and listening to a conversation, it will take twice as long to read that same email if you had just done that separately.
What can be multitasked you may ask? One example: Folding clothes and watching tv.
- Block Scheduling
If not use to doing this, start small and build. Start with 15 minutes with absolutely no interruptions. Then build up to 1-2 hour block times depending on the block. Turn off all email and other distractions.
- Take breaks
It has been shown when a person takes regular 10-15 minute breaks every 1-2 hours (every hour is recommended), that person gets more done then those that do not take breaks. This allows your brain to refocus and for your body to get energized again.
- Planning your day in advance
This allows a person to stop thinking of what needs to be done. Write it down and your brain can rest.
- Nutrition
When we fuel our bodies with nutrient dense foods our brain and bodies will be able to stay alert and energized for the day.
- Checking email
Schedule your time to check email and set a timer. Email can eat up your day before you even get started. Beware of the email vortex. Email can also distract us from completing our most important items. Turn off those notifications during your block scheduled times.
- Internet/social media
Plan your time to be on social media and set a timer. It is very easy to take up time that hasn’t added any value to your day. Be intentional with your time on the internet.
- Awareness
Pay attention to how much time you are spending on each task. Live your life with intention. Can use my free worksheet to track your time.
